Hello everyone, as you all know, the NEET exam is conducted by NTA in offline (pen-and-paper) mode. However, the increasing number of paper leak cases has raised concerns in everyone’s mind. To talk about this issue, on 22 May 2026, NTA informed a Parliamentary Standing Committee and discussed important topics such as the NEET upper age limit, the number of attempts, examination mode, etc.

In this post, we will understand whether the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the Ministry of Education apply upper age limit criteria in NEET, and what the impact of this reform will be.

What is the Age Limit for NEET 2027?

To appear for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), candidates need to meet the eligibility criteria set by the conducting authority. The age limit is one of the major eligibility requirements for most competitive examinations. If we talk about the NEET 2027 age limit, there is a minimum age requirement of 17 years, but currently, there is no upper age limit. However, to discuss possible reforms in NEET, NTA presented several proposals before a Parliamentary Standing Committee, in which the age limit was one of the key topics of discussion.

According to various media reports and expert opinions, it is expected that the Ministry of Education may introduce the NEET age limit. NTA NEET Age Limit Rules (Expected)

Yet, there is no official information regarding NEET upper age limit. What are the rules if the NEET age limit criteria are applied are listed below:-

• The upper age limit is expected to be 25 Years.
• Age relaxations for OBC/ST/SC and PwD categories are for 5 years.
• The age limit is expected to apply from 2027 or 2028. 

Impact of Introducing an Upper Age Limit in NEET 2027 

If the Ministry of Education imposes the upper age limit criteria, then it affects mostly those students whose age limit is almost over or those who make multiple attempts. Here are the impacts of the NEET age limit listed below:-
